Thanks, Elizabeth, for these great links. As always, they’re fantastic. I was especially drawn to the ones about making characters stand out more. I think as a crime writer, it’s easy to fall into the trap of focusing too much on the plot (making sure all of the pieces of, say, a ‘whodunit’ fall into place). But readers want rich characters and it’s important to make sure that happens, too.
For a long time, I tended to focus on the mystery’s puzzle more than the characters, but the characters are just as important, for sure!
