Hi Elizabeth – thanks for highlighting these various links … I went over to the UK Parliamentary Booksellers award and have been very tempted … but I'll keep a note of this site: the world is dramatically changing at the moment … I sincerely hope common sense will prevail and we can remain at peace … though we have a lot of tyrant hearts to appease first. Cheers Hilary
Sometimes it seems like the world is just upside-down, doesn’t it? Yes, hoping for peace in 2024!
Some good stuff this week!
Thanks, Alex!
Thanks, as ever, for these links, Elizabeth. They're always so helpful. I especially noticed the one about how many eyes there are on a writer's work. I think authors do have to draw a line between asking for and learning from helpful ideas, and changing their work too much. I keep reminding myself that I'm never going to write something that everyone will love equally. It's not possible. That's why I think we have to be careful about whose advice we seek if that makes sense.
So very true, Margot! Not everyone is going to like our books. I believe in writing with the door shut, then opening the door when it’s time for betas, ARC readers, and editors.
Excellent links! Though I made it to the Career Authors and spent my whole evening there.
That’s a great site!
